Driving around the coast I see many barn quilts. They’ve caught my attention, and my imagination the more I sew. Cory says my decor style is Barbie Dream Lodge, and I like to think that a barn quilt for our porch could fit with this style. I want it to both go with our home's colors and to fit our personalities.
I had Cory give me some of his grid paper and this is what I came up with. A tree because we love our time in the forest and a star both for the stars in the sky and for the traditional shape of a sawtooth star that is a classic quilt block.
Cory cut a board to 24"x24”, gessoed it, drew a grid on it and then drew the design I had come up with for me to paint. He really enjoys geometry and when designs are geometric like this, so I knew he would appreciate working with it.
After I had it painted Cory held it up where we are planning to hang it to visualize how it will look.
Cory decided a frame for it would look best, so he made it one.
We used 3M velcro strips that are meant for hanging pictures and 3M hooks to secure it to the wall.
